U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed new travel bans and restrictions on 19 countries, citing security and immigration concerns.
Citizens from 12 countries are banned from entering the U.S., while travelers from 7 others will face increased restrictions.
The ban includes Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
Visitors from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela will face increased restrictions.
What Happens To Ghanaians In This Ban
As of June 2025, Ghana has not been subjected to a general travel ban by the United States.
However, the U.S. government has implemented a targeted visa restriction policy aimed at individuals deemed responsible for undermining democracy in Ghana.
This policy, announced in October 2024, is specifically directed at those involved in activities such as electoral manipulation, voter intimidation, or inciting violence during the electoral process. It does not apply to the general Ghanaian populace or the government of Ghana.
Additionally, recent travel bans issued by former U.S. President Donald Trump in June 2025 do not include Ghana. These bans have affected countries like Afghanistan, Iran, and Somalia, as well as Ghana’s neighbor, Togo, which faces partial restrictions.
For Ghanaian citizens, this means that standard visa application procedures for travel to the U.S. remain unchanged, unless an individual is specifically identified under the aforementioned visa restriction policy.
